There’s wonderful views over North Northumberland, the Borders and the coast from the top of the tower, though this is not normally open to the public. Much of this route follows the old Aln Valley railway line making it great tfail cyclists as well as walkers, with the red route joining Alnwick to the Sustrans cycleway. Turn right to follow path down to track, then turn right along track to forked junction with large tree and boulder on it.
If you had to cut short your journey cross the Iron bridge and the path will take you back to the original road at Park farm. Walks here are restricted to a few roads, and are pretty dull. Julne 6in 15cm long, they resemble chaffinches, but have a white rump, particularly visible when they are flying. Great for a walk and a picnic and the fact there are no dogs allowed or bikes means you can meander the paths without fear of being accosted by either. The pavement is on the other side of the bridge.

There are several coloured marked paths through the estate which you should keep to, as par of the estate are working farmland and a sawmill.
Often called the ‘Windsor of the North’, its warlike exterior – seen on-screen in the Harry Potter films – hides rich Renaissance-style interiors. It’s not just walkers and Potterphiles that love Alnwick. Also, despite a less-than-appetising name, the Hairy Lemon is a popular watering hole.
