May 05, Leonard rated it liked it. I laughed incessantly at Russell Beale’s performance but his Roote seems to be in a state of incipient collapse from the off whereas Pinter, pnter he played the role, showed us a figure of awesome power who only disintegrated as the play progressed.

I do like it, it is the best of Harold Pinter till now as I see. I saw a bit more humor in this than I’ve seen in some of Pinter’s other works that I’ve read so far. A black comedy set in a government-run mental institution, The Hothouse revolves around a sinister murder plot hatched against a backdrop pintdr corruption, sexual favors, and hopeless bureaucratic ineptitude. Lists with This Book. It is not quite long, but the effects will be longer.
The most intriguing part of the play is the near-perfect adaptation of human speech, particularly those who are tormented and have both malice and narold past. The end is often so abrupt and blunt that it hurts the readers pace and makes him wonder what it was all about.
