The level of detail was pretty good and there were some well-developed examples, but as ramze other reviewers noted, the nature of the components building off one another meant that it might be hard to find the referenced schema in an earlier or later section of the book while you were looking at one section.

The exercises reinforce knowledge without overwhelming and the language is not terse. This book tries to be a history book and reference all in one and it can be overwhelming, even to someone who’s written his own DBMS before. Please choose whether or not you want other users to be able to see on your profile that this library is a favorite of yours. I needed this for my class, and it was fine, but not great.
